Cooked food stalls refer to food stalls operating under fixed pitch hawker licences that resulted from the government’s legislation of street hawkers at that time.
The stalls were housed under a pagoda-like structure with no air-conditioning given their open structure. Due to the limited space, unauthorized outside seating was widespread and it was not uncommon to see unauthorized occupation of public areas.
As time went by, the obsolete features of the old cooked food stalls generated hygiene issues and other nuisances to the public and posed challenges to their operators as well.
